Saturday Forest School
Saturday Forest School
Guided by experienced teachers, our Saturday Forest School is an opportunity for children to play, build, investigate, observe and above all, be in nature for an extended period of time. We offer low teacher-child ratios, planned projects, as well as support for children to plan their own projects developed around their interests.
Explorers Club is a half day educational program offered on Saturdays. Parents can register their children, aged 5+ for this program through the St. Catharines Parks and Recreation guide.
This is a rain, snow or shine program, however, in the event of extreme weather, we will hold program in the Port Weller Community Centre. Please dress for the weather, and bring a drink and a snack.
Planned and Unplanned Activities
Over the course of the program, children will be given the opportunity to participate in planned and/or unplanned projects.
Unplanned Projects
Your child will likely develop some great questions while they explore nature. Our staff will provide the guidance and the tools necessary to help to develop a project that addresses their well-developed question.
Examples of Planned Projects are:
- observe and record how your shadow changes over the day/make sundial
- plant seeds and watch them grow
- journaling
- plant identification key-ring
- photography
- nature art
- measuring trees, and what it means
- investigating water levels and rainfall
